John Holmstrom interview
We found an interview of PUNK Magazine founder John Holmstrom; he talks about how he started PUNK, how it was like around him during 70s in downtown New York, including the music scene which later called punk music...
John grew up in Connecticut, and so was able to come to New York often when he was a teenager, to see music, like he saw Jimi Hendrix live in 1969, and to buy his favorite underground comics.
It is a bit surprising to know that when he moved to downtown New York later in 70s, there were a lot less people around, and "If you saw somebody, there was a good chance you knew them."
Also, he described that "nobody knew who we were" until he started PUNK Magazine with friends;
"When that first issue came out, it just blew everybody away. Everybody wanted to meet us. The Ramones, Lou Reed… Lou Reed asked to meet me… and from then on, we got into CBGB’s for free and then people were buying us free drinks."
